Mrs. Elizabeth Smith
Welcome to Hill Elementary School! I am honored and excited to continue working with the Hill School students, families and staff as your principal. My goal for our community is that everyone who comes to Hill experiences joy during their time here - joy in learning; joy in collaborating; and joy in exploring new ideas, relationships and adventures. I believe that our job as educators is to balance the joy in each of those experiences with challenge in order to support students as they meet their academic, social and emotional goals and succeed at high levels.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Aurora University, I served as an elementary teacher at Greenman for 17 years; and after earning a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Leadership from Aurora University, I served as an assistant principal at Schneider and Smith, and Teacher on Special Assignment, all in West Aurora. Each of these experiences provided me with opportunities to engage with students, staff, families and community members in order to help students grow.
I grew up on the east side of Aurora, but my husband, Mike, and our two boys, Brady and Nolan, have been raised as West Aurora Blackhawks from the start. Mike and Brady are proud West Aurora graduates and Nolan is a current student at West Aurora High School. When we are not in school, we enjoy participating in and watching a variety of sports, and you can usually find us at a ballfield or in a gym, depending on the season. During the rare times we are not at a game or practice, I love to spend time reading.
I am looking forward to another wonderful year at Hill and welcome you to stop by and see the amazing things our students, staff and families do throughout the year.
Mr. trevor huisinga
I am excited to continue my work in School District 129 with students and staff at Hill Elementary School!
Most recently, I served as the assistant principal of Greenman Elementary School for one year. Previous to my time in SD129, I worked in East Aurora School District 131 for a total of four years. Specifically, I served as assistant principal of Rollins Elementary School, where I led staff members in analyzing student data in an effort to promote academic growth. Prior to my time in that role, I served as a dean of students at East Aurora High School, where I focused on student discipline and attendance.
My classroom experience includes having served a second and fourth grade teacher, as well as a para educator in School District U-46. In tandem with that responsibility, I also coached baseball at South Elgin High School for nearly a decade.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in recreation, sports, and tourism from the University of Illinois, a Master of Arts in elementary education from National Louis University, and a Master of Arts in educational administration from Aurora University.
I look forward to meeting each of you and working together to foster a supportive and enriching learning environment for our students!
